Rec Fishing Biggest Earner for Murray Basin
Fishos are being highlighted as one of the biggest contributors to regional areas around the Murray-Darling Basin.
There’s been significant research into what kind of affect recreational fishermen have in the Murray-Darling catchment area.
“On average, recreational fishermen go fishing in the Basin 12 times per year, individually spending around $262 each trip. With approximately 430,000 fishers in the Basin, recreational fishers spend around $1.3 billion each year when fishing in the Murray-Darling Basin” said Chair of the Murray-Darling Basin Recreational Fishing Council Chris Collins.
The study also found that recreational fishing in the Basin contributes approximately $403 million to the areas Gross Domestic Product, and employs around 10,950 people.
While you don’t need to tell fishos twice that they’re doing some good for the community, recognition like this always goes a long way.
