A fisho named John called into Perth radio station 6PR from his boat just off the coast of Mindarie Keys.

John was travelling in Staggie Reef in a 19-foot boat when he spotted a large fin circling him, ‘this thing was the size of my boat’ he said.

The first call he made was to the divers in the area to get them out of the water. Later that day the popular swimming destination of nearby Scarborough Beach was closed 45 minutes after the shark spotting.

The area was later cleared by officials and the beach was reopened later in the day.
